Speaker of the House and California Republican Rep. Kevin McCarthy is prepared to file contempt charges against FBI Director Christopher Wray if he does not meet the deadline to produce a document that alleges President Joe Biden took bribes when he was vice president in exchange for policy.
He said on “Fox & Friends” on Tuesday that the dealing was less than 24 hours.
It comes before Republican Rep. James Comer, the head of House Oversight, was set to speak to Director Wray.
“Today is the deadline. So let me not just tell you, let me tell Director Christopher Wray right here, right now. If he misses the deadline today, I’m prepared to move contempt charges in Congress against him. We have jurisdiction over this. He can send us that document. We have the right to look at that, Republicans and Democrats alike in that committee, and if he does not follow through with the law, we will move contempt charges against Christopher Wray and the FBI. They are not above the law,” the Speaker said.
“I see sensitive documents all the time. I told him he could redact certain parts of that — names and others, so we wouldn’t know methods,” he said.
“But we have a right to see it. He does not have the right to choose what he can and cannot show us. We oversee the FBI and if he thinks differently, he will soon see a contempt charge in Congress against the director,” the Speaker said.
“There’s enough problems in the FBI and I will not sit back and allow him to ignore this. We will get this document…. He knows that there’s a document and we have a responsibility to see it,” he said.
“The agency refused to provide the document Monday in a private meeting with the House Oversight and Accountability Committee. The unclassified FD-1023 document details criminal allegations of a pay-to-play scheme related to the Biden family’s business dealings, according to a whistleblower at the agency who spoke with Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa,” Fox News reported last week.
Fox News host Jesse Watters was furious with the news and suggested that Speaker of the House and Republican California Rep. Kevin McCarthy threaten to “blow up” the debt ceiling if President Biden does not resign.
He made the comments on Monday when he spoke to Republican Rep. James Comer who said he has subpoenaed the document.

WATTERS: According to whistleblowers FBI sitting on evidence that Joe Biden was directly tied to an international bribe scheme. You would think the president, taking cash for policy would be big. But, no, the media is doing exactly what the FBI wants. They are saying it’s nothing. They are saying they can’t find any evidence that Joe really got any bribes. Well, 10 million in foreign cash got sliced and died into 20 different shell companies and went straight into the bank accounts of nine Biden Administration I mean the case has been cracked, guys. We are just missing the one document the FBI is hiding. And the whistleblower says the FBI has the document. Oversight chairman James Comer met with the FBI today to say hey, I’m in charge of oversight. Give me the evidence. So what did the FBI say? Chairman James Comer joins us now. Did you get the evidence?
COMER: Well, the FBI refused to turn over the form 1023. We had another meeting where they were very patronizing. I have asked for a phone call with Director Wray. We expect to get this document. Speaker McCarthy had a phone call with director Director Wray he demanded that they turn over this document. This is a very crucial piece of our investigation. And the reason that I think it’s very credible is this claim was made years before anyone knew about these different shell companies. And knew exactly what the Biden family did in countries like Romania and China to get money.
WATTERS: But, congressman, I don’t think the FBI respects you.
COMER: They don’t respect anyone in Congress. They have been able away with this for a long time. The media continues to turn a blind eye. The Senate Republicans continue to fund the FBI. So, why would you change your business model when you are getting everything you want? What we’re going to have to do in this house is demand that the senators get our backs, like they are doing as we speak with these debt ceiling negotiations and hold their budget hostage until they get new leadership at the FBI or they produce the documents that we want. It’s not just this form 1023. We also want to know what classified documents Joe Biden had in his possession because that’s an important part of our investigation.
