A former child actor and fellow Democrat is getting set to challenge California Rep. Adam Schiff for his spot in the House.
Ben Savage, who starred in “Boy Meets World,” has filed the paperwork with the Federal Elections Commission, to campaign for the House, ABC News reported.
But the filing does not mean he is certain to campaign and his representative said that “he is focused on his upcoming wedding. Ben is still making decisions and always looking for opportunities to give back and serve the community.”
The 30th District seat is currently held by longtime Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff, who is seen as a potential candidate to succeed Sen. Dianne Feinstein, though she hasn’t yet said whether or not she’ll seek reelection.
If Savage does make a run for Congress, it wouldn’t be his first campaign to hold office. He ran unsuccessfully to be on the West Hollywood City Council in the 2022 election, focusing on community safety, housing and homelessness, according to his website.
Democrat Rep. Katie Porter has announced her intention to campaign for the Senate seat held by Sen. Dianne Feinstein, 89, who would be older than 90 for the next Senate election and is predicted by many to be retiring,” Fox News reported.
“California needs a warrior in the Senate—to stand up to special interests, fight the dangerous imbalance in our economy, and hold so-called leaders like Mitch McConnell accountable for rigging our democracy. Today, I’m proud to announce my candidacy for the U.S. Senate in 2024,” she said in a tweet with her announcement video.
But it was last month when Rep. Schiff hinted that he wanted to campaign for that position, but was waiting for a decision by Sen. Feinstein.
During an appearance on KTTA’s “The Issue Is,” host Elex Michaelson asked Schiff about campaigning for a spot in the U.S. Senate, Breitbart News reported.
“It is widely expected that California Senator Dianne Feinstein, who is 89, will retire at the end of her term. You have expressed interest in that job. Is there any reason you would not run for Senate?” the host asked.
“Well, I’m not usually asked the question in that form. You know, look, I am getting a lot of encouragement to run for the Senate from people in California and colleagues here in Congress. If Senator Feinstein retires, then I will give it very serious consideration. You know, at this point, I think we’re waiting to see what Senator Feinstein has to say about her plans, but yes, it is something I’m giving serious consideration to,” Schiff responded.
Colorado Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert is praising House Speaker Kevin McCarthy for honoring his pledge to remove a handful of controversial Democrats from their committee assignments.
During an interview on Fox News, Boebert spoke with host Dan Bongino about McCarthy fulfilling one of his promises to boot Democrat Reps. Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell from the Intelligence Committee. McCarthy is also prepared to prevent Minnesota Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar from being on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
“You heard what McCarthy said, they won’t have Swalwell on any committee. Joining me, is Lauren Boebert. Seriously, Swalwell is a disaster. We know about the scandal with ‘fang fang.’ How is this guy still on the intel committee getting briefings?” Bongino asked Boebert.
“Thank you for providing cover for us. We are fighting for these legislative wins we received. These fun times amount to changes. As far as Swalwell. The last Congress congressman was removed from his committee because he made a video. But little Eric took a walk and refused to take the vote. He’s compromised and he should be nowhere near secret classified information. Dan: Adam Schiff as well. He wasted six years of our life fantasizing about some Trump peepee tape that didn’t exist. Then he got busted trying to push another hoax about Russians and Devin Nunes,” Boebert said.
“They are showing their colors. They are a bunch of conspiracy theorists that have witch hunts and hoaxes they chase after. They wanted Trump in jail over classified documents. With Biden, it’s let’s wait and see. They attacked Don Jr. and praised Hunter Biden. If it was a Republican caught with a Chinese spy, what would they do? They would be all over it. But the fake news, they would be running 24/7. And most Americans haven’t heard about everything that’s going on. Not only has gone back to Swalwell, but he was also a subcommittee chair. And in one hand he’s holding a gavel and in the other hand, he’s holding a hammer and sickle. Dan: congresswoman Lauren Boebert, thanks for all you did up there, it was a good time,” she added.
