Billionaire Elon Musk, who is set to be the new owner of Twitter after the deal is accepted by shareholders, has weighed in on the Hunter Biden laptop story being suppressed on Twitter.

The Tesla, SpaceX and Starlink CEO took to Twitter on Tuesday and let everyone know that there is a new sheriff in town.

“Vijaya Gadde, the top censorship advocate at Twitter who famously gaslit the world on Joe Rogan’s podcast and censored the Hunter Biden laptop story, is very upset about the @elonmusk takeover,” Saagar Enjeti said in a tweet.

“Suspending the Twitter account of a major news organization for publishing a truthful story was obviously incredibly inappropriate,” the billionaire responded.

The New York Post reported:

The Post’s exposé revealed the existence of tens of thousands of emails that detailed how the then-presidential candidate’s son leveraged his political access in a series of eyebrow-raising overseas business deals after the newspaper obtained a copy of the hard drive from the laptop.

The piece was banned by major social media sites in the weeks before the election, with Twitter justifying accusations of censorship by labeling the story “content obtained through hacking that contains private information.”

“The images contained in the articles include personal and private information — like email addresses and phone numbers — which violate our rules,” the company tweeted about the article at the time.

Many mainstream outlets also discredited the article, before later reporting on its veracity long after President Joe Biden was elected.

In other Twitter news, Donald Trump Jr. and other prominent conservatives have seen dramatic increases in their Twitter follower count.

At the same time Democrats like former President Obama as well as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have seen their follower count slumping, The Daily Mail reported.

“While I’m awesome and totally deserving of 87,000 new followers a day it seems that someone took the shackles off my account. Wonder if they’re burning the evidence before new mgmt comes in?” he said with a chart showing his follower count growth.

Don Jr’s account had grown by between 5,000 and 10,000 tweets a day in recent weeks, with the spike in the wake of Musk’s announcement immediately obvious.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis also saw a huge 141,566 people on Tuesday, according to SocialBlade statistics. That is a vast increase on the 5,000-or-so followers the popular GOP governor generally gains in the average day.

He praised Musk’s bid for Twitter, calling it ‘a good deal for shareholders’ and saying it ‘raises the prospect that the platform will be a place where free speech can thrive, not a tool for narrative enforcement.’

Conservative talk show host Dana Loesch, who’s long complained of account suppression, saw her followers surge by about 9,000 on Tuesday.

By comparison, she was gaining a few hundred new followers a day prior to Musk’s acquisition.

“Noticing an increase in followers and engagement after losing huge chunks (or static follower count for weeks on end) for the past few years. Also seeing tweets from people I whose accounts I never see and am not having to refollow other conservatives repeatedly,” DanaLoesch said.

“It’s too soon for Musk to have done this but I’m wondering if something was changed by those seeking to minimize their fingerprint ahead of potential transparency,” she said.

“Kind of as a joke I took screenshots of my follower count for almost two years after I lost 20k followers per day back in 2020. It’s been interesting to see the difference within the past 24 hours,” she said.

“It really is something how conservative accounts are getting massive follower increases today….,” Rep. Matt Gaetz said.

Musk, the soon-to-be new owner of Twitter, issued a press release upon his purchase of the platform.

“Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated,” he said. “I also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spambots, and authenticating all humans. Twitter has tremendous potential – I look forward to working with the company and the community of users to unlock it.”
